Every year 1.6 million Americans are diagnosed with cancer and nearly half of those cases are considered incurable. But many of those “incurable” cases may be beatable by exploiting biological features unique to each individual’s cancer. Marty Tenenbaum will talk about a convergence of recent developments in genomics, big data informatics, social networks, and personalized medicine that is transforming the landscape of cancer research and treatment.

The Tata Center for Technology+Design along with the MIT Media Lab will be hosting a workshop that will bring together students from across India to work closely with clinicians over seven days to develop fully functional prototypes for medical diagnostics. Students will engage in a complete pipeline of device design: from ideation, to project definition, to prototyping, to user testing, and finally to presentation and demonstration of their achievements in an exhibition open to the public and press.

KumbhThon is a technical hackathon for Kumbh 2015. It is a 72-hour ideating and prototyping extravaganza. The first day covers tech talks by renowned industrialists and technological evangelists. This is followed by a 72-hour hack event, interspersed with videoconferencing sessions by global icons. KumbhThon is an event promoting ideas and creativity, with the participants exposed to fever-pitched (albeit healthy) competition. It’s a great platform to make your stagnant ideas take shape.
