With growing dependence on digital voice and text messaging, it is crucial to be able to access messages in the most intuitive fashion. The LampMail project aims to construct a basic prototype of an interactive lamp, which is also used as an interface for voicemail retrieval and control. The lamp is built in the shape of a cat to enhance the idea of interactivitiy. The fiberoptic "whiskers" of the cat light up when a new voicemail message is received. When the lamp is turned on, the "eyes" (bulbs) light up and the lamp starts playing the new messages. The "nose" is a rotary switch-control used to skip to the next message.
