Abstract

REmotion is a memory-tracing journaling system that leverages AI to surface contextually relevant past experiences throughout the day, supporting emotional regulation through cognitive reappraisal. 

Central to REmotion is the concept of memory tracing, where past reflections are not only retrieved based on emotional relevance but also mapped to recurring contextual patterns—such as specific times of day, activities, or emotional rhythms. This enables users to better understand how their emotional trajectories evolve over time and how past experiences can inform present challenges.

Ongoing work focuses on refining temporal retrieval algorithms to identify meaningful emotional patterns, enhancing cognitive distortion detection, and developing context-sensitive AI guidance. By complementing OnSecondThought's real-time adaptive feedback with longitudinal memory insights, ReMotion aims to create a more holistic, user-centered approach to emotional self-regulation and well-being.
