An early prototype of this project was flown on a previous flight with Mission: AstroAccess in October 2021. The latest version tested on the 2024 Aurelia Institute Horizon flight is intended to provide spatial localization and orientation information to a microgravity participant who is blind or has low vision. In microgravity, standard vestibular orientation cues are useless and the participant must rely on vision to determine their orientation and position. For blind and low vision participants, this is almost impossible. This project uses a system of stationary beacons and a worn haptic feedback device to give the user position and orientation information while in microgravity.
