Project

Learning as a Basis for Sustainable Development

This project explores how learning must be the basis of sustainable development and how constructionist approaches to learning can be applied to assist environmentally benign sustainable development. If solutions come from outside local contexts, the situation is inherently unsustainable. We are developing new computational tools for agriculture, environment, and collaborative problem-solving, including tools for those who are not textually literate. We are doing fieldwork in Senegal with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UN-FAO) and local partners to test and refine the tools and methodologies.
