A number of Media Lab spinoffs and companies supported by the E14 Fund, the early-stage venture capital firm from and for the MIT and Media Lab startup community, have been named to TIME's "200 Best Inventions of 2024."
The following companies made the list:
- Brelyon: Goggle-Free Immersion (Consumer Electronics)
Spinoff from the Camera Culture group; supported by the E14 Fund - Formlabs: Speedy 3D Printing (Manufacturing + Materials)
Spinoff from the MIT Center for Bits + Atoms and the Fluid Interfaces and Object-Based Media groups; supported by the E14 Fund - Guardian: Fully Autonomous Crop Dusting (Agriculture)
MIT spinoff co-founded by a former UROP from the Smart Cities group; supported by the E14 Fund - Overjet: Clearer Dental X-Rays (Medical Care)
MIT spinoff; supported by the E14 Fund
Nominations were solicited from TIME’s editors and correspondents, and through an online application process, paying special attention to growing fields—such as health care, AI, and green energy. Each contender was evaluated on a number of key factors, including originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact.
