Raechel Walker, a PhD student in the Personal Robots group, has been selected as a recipient of an ACM Conference on Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency (ACM FAccT) 2024 scholarship. Five proposals were selected, with the purpose of developing positive alternative visions for the future of algorithmic systems and their research communities. As part of her scholarship, which will support her PhD research in data activism, Raechel received $15,000 in funding for her proposal, "Liberatory Computing: Empowering African Americans through Data Activism." FAccT will also work to connect awardees with potential funders to amplify the impact of this grant.
ACM FAccT is an interdisciplinary conference dedicated to bringing together a diverse community of scholars from computer science, law, social sciences, and humanities to investigate and tackle issues in emerging research areas.
