Dr. Katlyn Turner spoke at University of Michigan's "Phoenix Project: From Kikuchi to Fastest Path," a conference hosted by the Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences (NERS) department. In the session on nuclear waste, Dr. Turner presented her paper "Consent, stewardship, isolation, and care: perspectives on epistemologies of nuclear waste management."
The conference brings together international scholars, policymakers, and activists to discuss socio technical research in nuclear technology. This year's included a series of enlightening sessions covering the history and communication of nuclear energy, as well as sessions delving into the sociotechnical studies of fusion, regulation, safety, and waste. It also featured discussions on nuclear education and culture, missives from practitioners and policymakers, and new pathways for nuclear. One of the co-chairs, Aditi Verma, previously collaborated with Space Enabled has co-authored with Dr. Turner and Danielle Wood on their AGU 2023 paper regarding antiracism and technology design.
