Ikra Iftekhar Shuvo, a PhD student at the MIT Media Lab, is the recipient of a Best Poster award at the Materials Research Society 2024 Fall Meeting. His award was for the poster titled, "Ferroelectric Resonator—An Energy-Efficient Alternative to Heat for Water Extraction."
His research is in fabricating smart polymers and developing ferroelectric ultrasonic resonator systems to solve critical challenges in food and water systems associated with the pressing issue of climate change. His solution can render decentralized water production economically feasible by reducing the prohibitively high energy consumption associated with traditional water harvesting methods.
The Materials Research Society (MRS) is an organization of materials researchers worldwide that promotes communication for the advancement of interdisciplinary materials research and technology to improve the quality of life. Annual MRS meetings are held every spring and fall.
