The City Science Lab @ Biobío, based in Concepción, Chile, focuses on urban innovation, sustainable mobility, and participatory planning. Under the leadership of Director Fernando Pérez, the lab develops digital tools and data-driven approaches to improve decision-making in cities, with a special emphasis on the Biobío region. This initiative is the result of a collaborative effort launched by the Cámara Chilena de la Construcción (CChC), Corporación Ciudades, and the Biobío Regional Government, with support from ChileMass. The team has continued to grow—welcoming more professionals, researchers, interns, and expanding its presence across media and stakeholder networks. In 2024, the lab partnered with the port authority to launch Ciudad Portuaria (CityPort), Latin America’s first digital and interactive urban environment. The team also traveled to Neuquén, Argentina, to examine urban change in the context of rapid industrial development, engaged with innovation ecosystems in Boston, and participated in the City Science Summit in Andorra—where the lab was honored with the opportunity to host the next summit. Looking ahead to 2025, the lab is embracing new challenges through collaboration with the City Science Network, working to shape the future of global events and deepen our shared understanding of cities in transition.
