Wearable Applications |
|
what defines a wearable application? |
A true wearable application is a mobile, persistent, proactive, and context aware system which is designed to extend the capabilities of the wearer. Like clothing, a wearable application is always present and always doing its job, even when the wearer isn't focusing on it. | |
Mobile and Persistent |
always with you, always doing its job
Wearable applications are always accessible, and immediatly available for use. Wearable applications are persistent and functioning even when they are not the center of the wearer's attention. |
Proactive |
semi-autonomous, capable of getting the wearer's attention
Wearable applications act as the wearer's agents, meaning that they may take the initiative in notifying the wearer of new information or in taking other actions based on changing context. |
Context Aware |
senses and understands the wearer's relevant context
Context is non-explicit input. Non-explicit input is anything the application learns about the wearer and environment that it is not explicitly told. e.g. voice commands directing an application are explicit input, listening to know when the wearer is engaged in a conversation is non-explicit input. Context is gathered through sensors which require some degree of signal processing, classification, and higher-level situation or activity modeling to be useful. |
