Intellectual Property
The Media Lab provides a unique opportunity to participate in a shared pool of intellectual property (IP).
Companies sponsoring the Lab at the consortium level or higher have the opportunity to share in the Lab’s intellectual property license-fee-free and royalty-free. Non-sponsors are precluded from making use of the Lab’s developments for at least two years after technical disclosure is made to the MIT and Media Lab sponsors.
Out of the Lab and Into the World
Over the years, this policy has fostered a large number of unexpected and highly successful solutions that have led to new technologies and products, greatly benefiting both sponsors and the world community. Examples of collaborations between sponsor companies and the Media Lab are available.
